2024 STiRM "Neptunite" Cienega Valley Rosé

2024 STiRM "Neptunite" Cienega Valley Rosé

Review Date: 07/2025

Composed of 58% old-vine (planted in 1964) Riesling from Wirz Vineyard, 38% Chenin Blanc from Gimeli (aka El Gabilan) Vineyard, and 4% each of Pinot Noir and ancient-vine Cabernet Pfeffer—all meticulously sourced fruit grown on granite and limestone mixed gravel soils. “Netptunite,” named after a rare gemstone found in the old mines of San Benito County, underwent spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel and neutral oak where the wine aged on its fine lees and underwent full malolactic. Bottled unfined after a delicate filtration for clarity, only 200 cases were produced. Juicy lychee, fragrant nectarine, tangerine zest, and orange blossoms—clean, dry, 12.5% ABV, medium-bodied and so full of flavor. This is a mesmerizing sensory experience—something completely different and I love it!

There's just a very light touch of barrel spice on the nose, besides that, there's a soft little floral perfume and then very soft raspberries, rhubarb, and then some apricot and a little touch of freshly squeezed apple. The palate is light and crisp, almost ethereal in the best of ways. there's a little neutral barrel note and then a soft wave of bountiful fruit riding on a jutting crest of acid to completely clean your palate. This is really lovely in an enrapturing kind of way, the more that I sip and taste, the more I'm feeling those butterflies of when you find a wine you really connect with. There's something here that is going to make me buy a case or so just to figure out what I really love so much about this, but until then, this is more of a porch wine than a pool wine, but could also be a part of a fondue dinner. It's just great.
