Spice- and earth-driven with a lovely restrained edge, giving aromas of cherries, bark, blood oranges, charcuterie, dried rose petals and graphite. The palate is chewy and tactile, with firmly framed tannins and focused acidity, finishing with a mineral undertone. There is a lot of complexity and character to come with more time in the bottle. Drink or hold.

The 2023 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos des Forêts Saint Georges 1er Cru has a detailed and complex bouquet with a mixture of red and black fruit, a subtle estuarine influence and light graphite scents that surface with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with dark berry fruit. This is the most opulent and richest of the cuvées from the Domaine, attributable to the terroir. A dash of white pepper and allspice lingers on the finish. Excellent.(NM)

This has a swashbuckling, black-fruited nose showcasing fig paste, black cherries and sea breezes. Tangy acidity pulls the wine together while the sculpted tannins rest on the sidelines. The finish is pure, mineral glory. Wait half a decade before even thinking of opening this.

A fuller crimson red. The bouquet has the most energy to date, with floral notes. Raspberry with a little ripe cherry, a fraction more tannin, but refined, with a long clean finish. Good fresh fruit all across the palate, this will make a Clos des Forêts of distinction. Drink from 2030-2037. Tasted Nov 2024.

Notes

Bill Nanson Burgundy Report: "A relatively massive vineyard monopoly of 7.2 hectares – it’s half of the domaine – with three distinct soil types, all harvested and vinified separately.Wide and energetic – you can sense the structure just in the aromas. Ultra silky, supported by a nano-grained tannin with no dryness – what a sophisticated wine despite obvious power. So much complexity of finishing bitters and wide and long. Wow – but wait at least 5 years – better 10 – great wine!"(01/2025)
