With its effusive aromas of black cherries and violets, this red Loire wine is a charmer with only a tiny hint of bell-pepper character on the moderately dry, medium-bodied palate. The integration of the supple tannins and a touch of bitter chocolate in the finish is spot-on. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold. (SP)

Considering how excellent their white wines are, I figured this red would be every bit as impressive and i wasn't wrong. Personally, I thought it was a much pricier wine due to its depth and richness. It's smooth and polished with loads of flavorful black fruit and wonderful length. Definitely one of the best value reds in our Loire section.

Notes

Notes on the producer from Yohan Castaing for Wine Advocate: "Domaine FL emerged in the Loire's viticultural landscape in 2006 when entrepreneur Philip Fournier, leveraging his acumen from the telecommunications industry, entered the winemaking domaine through strategic acquisitions from a part of Domaine Jo Pithon and the Château de Chamboureau. Now stretching across 43 hectares, the estate has been officially labelled for its organic viticulture. In the cellar, the wines are matured for a long time, and malolactic fermentation is carried right through to completion. FL owns many well-situated parcels in Savennières or Anjou; the wines are classic and well executed." (01/2024)
