Red plums, candied violets, incense, and orange blossom all emerge from the exotic 2022 Côte Rôtie Coeur De Combard. Medium to full-bodied and beautifully balanced on the palate, it has fine yet building tannins and a focused, straight style that's classic 2022.

Vibrant, energetic and delicate, the 2022 Coeur de Combard offers up aromas of violets, dark berries, ripe orchard fruits, cassis and spices, followed by a full-bodied, pure, harmonious, layered and concentrated palate with perfectly integrated tannins, a fleshy core of fruit, a seamless, ripe texture and a long, mineral, tense finish. This outstanding blend of 95% Syrah (with 40% whole clusters) and 5% Viognier, matured in wooden tank, is crafted from vines planted on mica-schist soils and is a truly stunning wine that could age over the next two decades. The soft rose petal and incense aromas immediately drew me into this Cote-Rotie. This is one of those wines that invites you keep sniffing before you finally take your first sip. Once the wine hits your palate, you're greeted with bright, crunchy notes of strawberry, cherry, and pomegranate. This wine is fresh and vibrant, with a great structure and well-integrated tannins. This wine is quite charming and is a great candidate for any special occasion.

Notes

Domaine Barge is a small historic estate in Cote-Rotie. The Barge family goes back to the 1860s in the region and were instrumental in having the appellation recognized in the AOC sytem back in 1940. Julien Barge took over the winemaking from his father Gilles Barge in 2018 and began making moves towards more organic farming and production. Total ownership is around 5.7 hectares of Cote-Rotie, 1 hectare of Condrieu and 1.5 hectares of St-Joseph. The Coeur de Combard is from a special vineyard within the lieu-dit of Combard. It is all planted on volcanic soil, a distinctive soil unique to this site. The wine is made with 95% Syrah and 5% Viognier. Grapes are fermented with native yeasts, and spend 28 months aging in 600L oak barrels. (In Organic Conversion)
