Review Date: 12/2013Starting off and a classic 2011 that shines in the vintage, the 2011 Gigondas Cuvee Tradition is composed of 80% Grenache, 10% Mourvedre and 5% each of Syrah and Cinsault. Aged 80% in very old barrels and 20% in concrete tank, it dishes up fantastic southern Rhone flare and is reminiscent of an open air street market in the south of France. Ground pepper, spice, stems, saddle leather and sweet blackcurrants all emerge from this medium-bodied, supple and pure effort that has solid concentration, high-quality tannin and a seamless texture that carries through the finish. Already approachable and delicious, it should drink nicely for 5-7 years or more. (JD)

Notes
Moulin de la Gardette's "Tradition" is composed of 80% Grenache, 10% Mourvedre and 10% Cinsault from 20- to 60-year-old vines on the la Gardette hillside in the Gigondas appellation. Whole berry fermentation in concrete tanks and aging only in neutral oak preserves the freshness of the red fruits and spice. The wine’s style is decidedly old school with brambly, spicy fruit. It has classic aromas of pipe tobacco with touches of earth and grilled meat. To drink it now, decant it an hour in advance; or give it little more time in the bottle. This wine is ideal with pork loin roast rubbed with fresh herbs such as rosemary and thyme. (Keith Mabry, K&L Rhône/French Regional Buyer)
