2022 Moulin de la Gardette "Tradition" Gigondas

Review Date: 12/2024The 2022 Gigondas Tradition (80% Grenache and 10% each Syrah and Mourvèdre) is, perhaps, riper than the Ventabren release and offers a beautiful nose of kirsch and ripe strawberries intermixed with sappy flowers, garrigue, and cedary nuances. It's medium-bodied on the palate as well, with a balanced, layered mouthfeel, ripe tannins, and a great finish. It too plays in that sappy, floral, borderline green end of the spectrum.

Jean-Baptiste Meunier represents the fifth generation of winemakers at Moulin de la Gardette in Gigondas. We've worked with this producer since the mid-1990s, and these wines remain among our favorites from the region. Gigondas has emerged from the shadow of neighboring Châteauneuf-du-Pape, creating wines of distinctive intensity and flavor. The appellation's south-facing slopes, higher elevations, and varied soils help distinguish the region. The "Tradition" blends Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Syrah from vines averaging 50-60 years old. Aged approximately 18 months in mostly used foudre and demi-muid before bottling. (Keith Mabry, K&L Rhône Buyer) *Organic*
