Based in Logroño, Viña Ijalba farms 40 hectares of vines, including this Viura and Tempranillo, of course, but also other varieties such as Maturana tinta and blanco and Graciano. They are known for taking a chance on these other varieties, bottling them as single varietal wines, at a time when most of the region was still producing wines labeled as Crianza, Reserva or Gran Reserva. This Viura is one of the best values out there for white Rioja wine. Like their other wines, the Viura takes advantage of fermenting and ageing in concrete tanks, which offers unmatched insulation and temperature control. The result is this yellow fruited, nicely weighted and balanced, elegant white.
