The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Combottes 1er Cru is a step up from the Cherbaudes in terms of complexity, the fruit slightly darker with subtle sea cave and oyster shell scents. The whole bunches works really well here. The medium-bodied palate is sapid and fresh with fine tannins and a generous dose of cracked peppercorns on the finish courtesy of the stems. Excellent. Firm reduction renders the nose impossible to assess. More interesting are the equally rich and generously proportioned, if slightly finer, medium weight flavors that possess a highly seductive mid-palate mouthfeel while exhibiting good length on the balanced finale. This could use better depth so up to a decade of cellaring should be helpful.
