Reviewed January 2024A little more clay in the soil here. Mid red to crimson. Some red berries and some spice on the nose. The fruit on the palate is weightier than Clos Prieur, cherry and strawberry together, though not necessarily finer. There is an attractive medium to full fruit, then drier tannins to finish. Drink from 2030-2037.

Vinous
The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin Petite Chapelle 1er Cru has the most winsome of Rossignol-Trapet's aromatics amongst their Premier Cru, with perfumed red cherries and wild strawberry fruit, very pure and demonstrating the most ripeness. The medium-bodied palate has fine-boned tannins. It’s a refined, elegant Gevrey with clove and white pepper sprinkled over the finish. Well worth seeking out. (NM)

Burghound
A discreet application of wood can be found on the even more elegant nose of spiced plum, black cherry and a very pretty range of floral influences. The suave, round and generously proportioned medium weight flavors also brim with minerality as well as a sappy dry extract that coats the palate on the balanced, youthfully austere and impressively persistent finish. This too is quite lovely and should easily reward extended keeping.*Burghound Outstanding!*
Notes
Bill Nanson Burgundy Report: "Since 2003, no pigeage with this wine. ‘My grandfather always called the neighbour Grand Chapelle, not Chapelle-Chambertin, this adjoining plot is Petite Chapelle… It’s a soil with a lot of clay – almost 2 metres and hardly any stones – a colder soil though.’Hmm – a cushioned, hyper-elegant perfume. In the mouth too – a wine to sink into and contemplate. The tannin is hardly present – without dryness too. Very broad finishing and juicy – beautiful wine, potentially great, but I’d take the extra personality of the Corbeaux today!" (12/2023)
