François Servin’s 2022 Blanchot is made from vines that are closing in on their forty-fifth birthday, and Monsieur Servin chooses to ferment and raise this lovely grand cru entirely in stainless steel tanks. The complex aromatic constellation wafts from the glass in a refined blend of apple, pear, paraffin, a refined foundation of chalky soil tones, anise, white lilies, lemon zest and a touch of oyster shell in the upper register. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, vibrant and mineral-driven, with a superb core of fruit, a fine girdle of acidity, impeccable balance and a long, precise and complex finish. This is an outstanding example of young Blanchot! It is already very tasty, but it is a proper grand cru in a top flight vintage and it has another layer of complexity to offer if given some cellaring time. (Drink between 2025-2055) (JG) 94+

Note: from a .91 ha parcel; 100% stainless. This is aromatically similar to the Montée de Tonnerre with the important exception that there is no wood influence here. On the palate there is a certain resemblance as well as I very much like the texture of the bigger and richer, though not finer, medium-bodied flavors that display impressive power on the sappy and palate soaking and slightly firmer finish where the only nit is a touch of warmth. Some patience required.

This is a taut and restrained Blanchot that sees nothing but stainless steel. Lemon zest, oyster shells and tilleul gently perfume the palate. Mouthwatering acidity delivers terrific refreshment and will give this ample time to mature in the cellar. There are two parcels (totalling 91 ares) of 53-year-old vines, one at the top and one at the bottom of the slope, typically harvested over several different days.

The 2022 Chablis Blanchot Grand Cru, taken from tank as usual, has quite a classical bouquet with sea spray/oyster shell scents percolating through the citrus fruit. The palate is well-balanced with a fine bead of acidity, one of the more elegant Grand Crus from Servin with an approachable, open finish. Very fine, though less cerebral than the Bougros.(NM)
