The 2022 Monthélie Meix-Bataille 1er Cru comes from a plot just outside the village on deep soils. This has an intense, licorice-scented bouquet that takes no prisoners: gutsy and powerful. The palate is medium-bodied with a Pommard-like fruit profile. Pliant tannins are not obtrusive but cohesive with black pepper on the finish. A gutsy wine that should age well in bottle.(NM)
