Decanter
Reviewed October 2024There is a great purity to the aromas of nectarine and lemon peel in the delicious village Chablis from Samuel Billaud. It's lively and fresh, with a tension that carries the wine to a lingering finish. The grapes are from three parcels: two on the left bank – Pargues (near Préhy) and the back side of the Montmains slope – and on the right bank, vines at the base of Montée de Tonnerre. They represent 5ha in total; 2ha domaine and 3ha purchased fruit.(CC)

Jasper Morris
A blend of Samuel’s three excellent terroirs, Les Pargues, Cartes-Fontenottes, and Bas de Chapelot. Pale colour. A very classic nose, not too pungently marine, with a depth of fruit, clean clear cut white fruit with a real crispness to finish. The lees work is exemplary. Drink from 2025-2028. Tasted Jun 2024.

Moderate reduction pushes the underlying fruit to the background today. On the palate there is excellent volume to the vibrant and equally stony medium weight flavors that also conclude in a chiseled, bone-dry and sneaky long finale. This is a potentially outstanding villages and worth your interest. *Outstanding top value!*

Vinous
From Les Pargues, Les Cartes and Chapelot-Bas, the 2023 Chablis Grands Terroirs has a refreshing, quite minerally bouquet with hints of potpourri behind the citrus fruit. The palate is well balanced with a saline entry, and tightening in the middle. A steely, bitter lemon finish. Drink over 3-4 years.(NM)
Notes
Bill Nanson Burgundy Report: "Pargues, Grand Ecarts with 80-year-old vines, and Chapelots – roughly equal parts of the three parcels. Bottling in April – it’s not yet done. Chalky and vibrant again – even more detail than the last. Scale and purity – that’s one of the ‘Chablis’ of the year. Bravo – such a blend of purity and citrus minerality – great detail."(09/2024)
