There’s real warmth to the nose here with hearty Christmas cake, baking spices, fireplace aromas and candied cherries. Very structured and quite powerful on the full-bodied palate. Muscular tannins drive through layered but vibrant red fruit to the quite long finish.

Pertinace is a kind of private cooperative, uniting 17 growers whose vineyards are mostly in Treiso. Some years ago, the winery indulged in barrique-ageing to satisfy American customers, but today almost all the wines are aged in large casks. (SB)
