Review Date: 01/2024Named for the date of plantation. Ripe apples with just the faintest peachiness on the nose. Impressive intensity and the marine aspect doesn’t hesitate to shine through on the palate along with ripe lemon and a trac e of pineapple. Complex yet coherent. Notable length. Drink from 2025-2029. Tasted Jun 2024.

The 2023 Chablis Vieilles Vignes V.V.46 comes from the first vineyard given to Julien Brocard's father, the vines were planted in 1946, the same year his father was born. Cropped at 30hl/ha, it has a very pure bouquet with elderflower and light honey and acacia scents. The palate is well balanced with a keen line of acidity, just a dab of sour lemon towards the finish. Enjoy over the next 6-8 years.
"Two thousand twenty-three…what a vintage! We had a lot of mildew pressure, more than I've ever seen before. It came quite late, from mid-June, and it very quickly infected the bunches. When you are organic, you can spray as many times as you like, but it's always in advance. We had a lot of damage in Montée de Tonnerre and especially in Grenouilles and Les Clos. I looked at the grapes and thought we could be harvesting 5 to 10hl/ha in those parcels, but it turned out to be a generous vintage, so we ended up with about half the crop there. We started picking on September 11 and finished quickly. The wines have high pH levels of 3.4 to 3.5 and high alcohol in some places. The vinification took a bit longer than usual, so we needed more control, and the malo was quick and easy. It was done by January when we did the first racking, and then we did the second racking last week. All the wines are from tank.”(NM)
