Review Date: 01/2024A rich dense purple. Thick raspberry fruit on the nose, and an immediate impression of whole bunch vinification (50%) with the white pepper signal. Then a smoky chocolate note on the palate that sits well with the intensity of the cherry raspberry fruit, with an attractive crunch to finish. Drink from 2028-2035.

Note: contains some premier cru juice from Fuées; from 8 different lieux-dits that include Les Athets, Les Barottes, Clos de l'Orme, Les Cras, Creux Baissants, Echézeaux, Les Mombies and Pas de Chat. A super-fresh and equally bright nose combines notes of plum, black cherry and subtle spice wisps. The rich, concentrated and seductive medium weight flavors exhibit unusually good power on the lingering, balanced and complex finale that is shaped by fine-grained tannins. This is an excellent Chambolle villages and worth your interest.*Burghound Outstanding!*

The 2022 Chambolle-Musigny Village is lively and seamless, wafting from the glass with aromas of sweet cherries, berries, rose petals and blood orange, followed by a medium to full-bodied, supple and succulent palate that's beautifully balanced and harmonious.
Christophe Roumier and I had been star-crossed in recent years, missing our 2021 rendezvous, thanks to a COVID-19 case, and our 2022 appointment due to a family emergency, so it was good to catch up with him this winter to taste his embryonic 2022s and bottled 2021s in Chambolle-Musigny. Despite producing a number of hulking, muscular vintages in the last few years, Roumier remains faithful to an elegant vision of red Burgundy, and he's quite candid about preferring his 2017s to his 2018s, and his 2021s to his 2020s. So it's all the more satisfying that, as he nears retirement, he has produced a brilliant back-to-back duo in 2021 and 2022, the latter ranging from 13.2 to 13.7% alcohol. While Roumier tries to delay his malolactic fermentations, he didn't succeed in 2022, and I can't help wondering if that also contributes to the harmonious, integrated profile of the wines. Whatever the reason, however, this tasting reminded me just how great these wines can be and why they were such an integral part of why I fell in love with Burgundy as a graduate student. We also took the opportunity to talk about the technical evolutions at this address over the last two decades, identifying some of the key steps: fewer punch-downs

The 2022 Chambolle-Musigny Village has a mixture of blackberry and raspberry fruit on the nose, focused and quite mineral-driven, yet perfectly in control. The palate has a lovely elegant entry and very fine tannins, the 55% whole bunches very well assimilated and imparting a light peppery note on the finish. Superb.(NM)
