2021 Ferraton Père et Fils "Le Reverdy" Ermitage Blanc

Review Date: 12/2022The 2021 Ermitage Le Reverdy Blanc checks in as equal parts Marsanne and Roussanne, with the Roussanne coming from the Le Méal lieu-dit and the Marsanne from the Beaume lieu-dit. It was brought up in 90% demi-muids and 10% stainless steel. It's another pure, medium-bodied, classic white from this team offering pretty stone fruits, acacia flowers, and toasty, subtly nutty aromatics, nicely integrated acidity, and beautiful overall balance. This elegant yet concentrated Hermitage will evolve for at least 10-12 years, and I suspect even longer.

Notes
The history of Ferraton begins in 1946 when it was founded by Jean Orëns Ferraton when he began acquiring vineyards in Hermitage, St-Joseph and Crozes-Hermitage. Son, Michel Ferraton joined his father years later and helped expand the estate's holdings. It was not until 1998 when the Godfather of the Northern Rhône, Michel Chapoutier, was welcomed as an investor in the winery and brought along his interests in organic and biodynamic farming. In 2008, oenologist Damien Bresset was added to the team and with his restrained hand, the wine began to truly express the best of the terroirs and their current profiles. Specializing in single site and appellation focused wines, Ferraton has one of the most exciting portfolios in the Northern (including a few surprise Southern) Rhône wines. "Le Reverdy" comes from two parcels - Les Beaumes (limestone and alluvial soils) and Le Meal (terraces of rolled pebbles) with south to south-east exposures. After harvest, grapes are pressed and transferred into a mix of barriques and demi-muid for fermentation, about 30% new wood. The wine is aged in barrels on its lees for 10 to 12 months depending on vintage.
