In bottle since last August, the estate will release all their 2021s in April, 2025. A pale ruby red color, with a touch deeper pigment, the 2021 Barolo Brunate sports a deeper mineral profile on the nose, with notes of crushed stones, violets, a bit of exotic spice, black raspberry, and licorice. The palate has broader shouldered, ripe tannins, but remains midweight, and it actually exhibits a bit more approachability and depth on the palate. Drink 2026-2056 (AF)

A complex and vibrant wine with aromas of blood orange zest, dried cherries, meat and restrained violets and sweet spices. Full-bodied with velvety tannins, refreshing acidity and intoxicating floral flavors. Chewy and tense in the finish. It will be released this spring. Try from 2027.

Aromas of ripe berry, wild rose, eucalyptus and dark spice lead the nose on the bold 2021 Brunate from Francesco Rinaldi. Firmly structured and full-bodied, the intense palate delivers mature black cherry extract, cool menthol and cinnamon before an anisette finish. Drink 2030-2041. (KO)

Review Date: 01/2025
The 2021 Barolo Brunate opens with very pretty aromatics. Dark cherry/plum fruit, spice, rose petal and blood orange emerge with some coaxing. On the palate, the 2021 feels a bit light, the result of severe frost damage that ultimately resulted in significant replanting following the 2023 harvest. The lack of textural depth is impossible to look past. (AG)

Notes

Giuseppe Rinaldi’s 2023 Langhe Nebbiolo is a pure and energetic expression of young-vine Nebbiolo, offering remarkable depth and character for the category. The nose is lifted and aromatic, with notes of red cherry, rose petal, and orange zest, accented by hints of spice and crushed herbs.
