Reflecting their clean winemaking style, this Catarratto is bright, aromatic, and bursting with Mediterranean character. The 2024 Giovinco “Alma” Catarratto comes from the Giovinco family, who have been farming vineyards in Sicily since the 1920s. Blending deep tradition with modern winemaking and organic viticulture, the estate is now guided by the talented and forward-thinking younger generation--judging by this wine, it’s an absolute win-win. The first note to flow off my pen is, “So much yum!” This 100% Catarratto (a close relative of Garganega) is dry and refreshing, bursting with juicy flavors of kiwi, yellow peach, pear, and a touch of key lime zest, all culminating in a lively, chalky mineral finish. At 12% ABV, it’s a stellar choice for brunch or lunch and as a K&L direct import, it's a fantastic value! Pair it with chicken katsu, sushi, delicately flavored seafood, or a salad with goat cheese and candied walnuts in a light vinaigrette--the possibilities for epicurean pleasure are immense.

Sicilian wines have garnered a great deal of attention of late and with good reason. Not only are the growers there producing so many excellent wines but also we now have so many to choose from. Our latest direct import from Italy is Giovinco. Like many, they've cultivated grapes for generations and are now producing wines as well. This refreshing white is aged entirely in stainless steel tanks and boasts expressive aromas of volcanic mineral and white peach. The palate is crisp and elegant and the wine comes in at only 12.5 percent alcohol. A exceptional value.

What a fun little bottle. This is undeniably a pool wine, but you'd be excused if you wanted to have it with a little bit of something to eat at well. Incredibly expressive from the first open, a little bit of tropical fruit, but super floral citron, lots of juicy white peach, and nectarine as well. The palate is texturally just phenomenal, and there's a great acidity pushing through the whole thing. a little bit of lemon pith on the finish rounds out the whole thing but doesn't quite push it into porch-wine territory. This is just such a great little bottle for $15 and would be a pretty outstanding choice for a Thanksgiving white, easily matching with a bunch of things including the Turkey and the stuffing.

Notes

From the sunny hills of Sicily, the 2024 Giovinco "Alma" is a vibrant and wonderfully aromatic expression of the island's native Catarratto grape. The nose is bright and expressive, bursting with notes of grapefruit, lemon zest, and white peach, accented by hints of fresh mint, sea spray, and a distinct, stony minerality. On the palate, it’s medium-bodied, crisp, and zesty, with a lively, mouthwatering acidity that frames the clean, juicy citrus and stone fruit flavors. The finish is long and refreshing with a touch of saline minerality, making this an incredibly versatile and food-friendly white, perfect for seafood or as a classic aperitivo.
