2022 Longavi "Glup!" País Bio Bio Valley
93
Descorchados
Review Date: 02/2024A vineyard on the bank of the Biobío River, planted on sandy-textured soils and 100% dry farmed is the origin of this wine, which offers a very good example of país wines from this southern Chilean zone. A delicate red, almost like a claret, but with firm, somewhat rustic tannins enveloped by earthy notes. It was aged for four months in foudres and that has added spices, but the main thing here is the fruit and the wild aromas in a red that moves across the palate with light body and needle-like tannins.

Notes
Longavi is a collaboration between Chilean winemaker Julio Bouchon and South African winemaker David Nieuwoudt. 100+ year old bush vines from the Southern Chilean region of Bio Bio. Located South of Concepcion this is one of the first placed to cultivate European grapes in the Americas. The two oldest and still propagated are Pais and Moscatel. This Pais was 100% destemmed, saw 3 day cold maceration, and after fermentation it was racked into Foudre. What is special about the Gulp! Wines are their typicity and accessibility.
