Review Date: 01/2024The holding is situated on three terrasses, planted in 1997, rich bright purple. Darker fruit yet with youthful energy. A certain amount of oak, quite high acidity, but the fruit keeps on going. Strict but decent. Drink from 2028-2033. Tasted Nov 2023.

The badger that has frequently ravaged this small parcel was deterred this year by means of a sound cannon, yet he nonetheless produced a small crop of the 2022 Pommard En Brescul, a taut, tightly wound young wine redolent of plums, dark berries and spices. It will reward a bit of patience.
Laurent Lignier picked his domaine holdings and négociant purchases, the latter amounting to the equivalent of some 3.5 hectares of vines, over the first dozen days of September, opting to retain around one-third whole bunches across the whole range. As readers will remember, winemaking is pretty classical at this address, with a short cold maceration, two to three weeks of maceration with one pigéage and one rémontage per day and maturation in barrels, some third of which are new—if possible, without racking—for fully 22 months in the domaine's cold cellars.(WK)

Here too there is a touch of reduction though notes of plum and violet can be discerned through the funk. The delicious and punchy medium weight flavors display evident minerality and good precision on the lingering and youthfully austere finale that is supported by bright, but not drying, acidity.

The 2022 Pommard En Brescul, which Lignier mentioned tends to produce small berries, has a taut, focused bouquet of black cherries, raspberries, crushed stone, and a light marine scent that hovers in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, sappy red fruit, gentle grip, and a touch of white pepper towards the finish. Simple but effective.(NM)
