2022 Domaine Hubert Lignier Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru "La Riotte"(1.5L)

Review Date: 01/2024This wine is the opposite of Chaffots – located below the band of grand crus in the centre of the appellation before Les Millandes. The soils are deeper, giving a soft and lush wine (although not lacking structure) with pronounced aromas of black plum and blackberry with hints of earth and smoke. There is an appealing sweetness to the fruit on the palate. Lignier farms 0.20 hectares he purchased in 1994; one-third of the grapes were fermented as whole clusters.(CC)

Mid purple, rather reductive on the nose. Dark red fruit behind. A little firmer at the finish thanks to the reduction, but otherwise a blood red fruit fills the middle palate. While it is not quiet singing today, I think there is promise for more to develop. Drink from 2032-2037. Tasted Nov 2023.

The 2022 Morey-Saint-Denis La Riotte 1er Cru was a tad reduced on the nose when I tasted the barrel sample. The palate is well-balanced with an attractive rondeur, slightly lower in acidity than Lignier's other cuvées. This builds in the mouth and fans out on the finish. My score is based on the palate at the moment.(NM)

Notes of dark berries, cherries, licorice, smoked meats and spices introduce the 2022 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru La Riotte, a medium to full-bodied, supple and sapid wine with a sweet core of fruit that's framed by powdery tannins.
Laurent Lignier picked his domaine holdings and négociant purchases, the latter amounting to the equivalent of some 3.5 hectares of vines, over the first dozen days of September, opting to retain around one-third whole bunches across the whole range. As readers will remember, winemaking is pretty classical at this address, with a short cold maceration, two to three weeks of maceration with one pigéage and one rémontage per day and maturation in barrels, some third of which are new—if possible, without racking—for fully 22 months in the domaine's cold cellars.(WK)
