James Suckling
Reviewed January 2024A beautiful floral and raspberry character and an elegant, refined texture make this irresistible. So well balanced, fresh and vivid, offering red cherries, black cherries, savory bay leaves, wild herbs and spearmint. Medium- to full-bodied. So pretty, detailed and agile. Made from older vines on this distinctive property, using a mix of the heritage Martini and Dijon clones.

This wine is opulent, with aromas of lingonberry, boysenberry, maple, violet, sandalwood and cedar on the nose. The flavors on the palate are baked dark cherry, black currant confiture and simmering spices, morphing into mandarin orange zest, cardamom, toasty oak and a dry, long and supple finish. (TP)

Wine Spectator
An expressive version, offering vivid boysenberry and mulberry pâte de fruit notes that ripple with nice underlying tension, while rose petal, iris and dried bergamot notes fill in the background. Mouthwatering finish. (JM)
Notes
Williams Selyem Winery began as a simple dream between two friends, Ed Selyem and Burt Williams, who pursued weekend winemaking as a hobby in 1979 in a garage in Forestville, California, and made their first commercial vintage in 1981. As friends, they decided to make a go of winemaking together in a two-car garage on River Road. The concrete pad outside held the small dairy tanks that they used as fermenters. The rest is history!
