Review Date: 11/2023The 2022 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Vignes Rondes 1er Cru comes from larger plots than Au Bas du Combe but is lower-yielding, so there are just three barrels. It has a bouquet similar to the Chaignots, which is not surprising as the vines are just below that vineyard. The palate is another with silky tannins, but with more tension and energy and quite a penetrating, captivating finish, overtly spicy on the aftertaste. This punches and Premier Cru level. (NM)

Vignes suffering degenerescence, not linked to rootstock, but just suffering in the drought years. Hence just 29 hl/ha in 2022 and 13.5% alcohol. Mid crimson purple. The nose has some density but not much detail. Rich fruit but a little four square with the structure slightly less well assimilated at this stage. The fruit though returns well at the back, on the darker side of red berries.
