2023 Domaine Louis Michel Petit Chablis
BH
Burghound
Review Date: 10/2024There is fine Chablis typicity to the expressive nose of apple, citrus and soft petrol nuances. The rich and relatively concentrated middle weight flavors possess good verve if limited depth on the refreshing finale.

Exotic peach and honeysuckle. Soft and easy, but a little might go a long way. Tasted Jun 2024.

Michel’s 2023 Petit Chablis, derived from 1.7 hectares of 25-year-old vines behind the grands crus, is rather charming and broad, wafting with aromas of pear, ripe citrus fruit and red apple. Medium to full-bodied and rather opulent, it’s a generous wine with an expansive finish, though lacking the acidic cut. It will drink well right out of the gates.
Guillaume Michel presides over this 25-hectare estate, with most of the land located in the historic part of Chablis. This estate has long been a reference point for tank-fermented and -matured Chablis, a style that the Michel family helped to popularize in the 1980s. Intense and tensile wines are the calling card here, pure and unadorned in style.(KK)

The 2023 Petit Chablis has a straightforward bouquet with orange zest and lemon scents. The palate is brisk and breezy on the opening. Not a deep or complex Petit Chablis, with a light chalkiness coming through on the finish. Fine.(NM)
Notes
Bill Nanson Burgundy Report: "From above and behind Valmur from 2 ha of vines. Not the worst – that was maybe Forets or Montmains a bit more for volumes…A width of aroma – concentrated but not so open. Large in the mouth, round, supple – easy but very delicious. The finish is sweet but with a lovely, vibrating, energy…"(09/2024)
