I always like Guillaume Michel’s Chablis AC bottling and often look for it on restaurant wine lists, as it is always such a great value. The 2023 will be another I will be on the lookout for in coming months, as it is very high in quality and will drink beautifully from the moment of release. The wine’s aromatic constellation is bright and complex, delivering notes of lime, pink grapefruit, chalk and wet stone minerality and a topnote of dried flowers. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, crisp and complex, with a good core, lovely soil undertow and cut, bright acids and a long, balanced and nicely precise finish. 2025-2045.

Note: from Les Cartes, Bas de Chapelot and Les Pargues. Here too there is a petrol nuance along with relatively prominent phenolic character (think olive oil wisps). On the palate there is both better volume and density to the delicious medium weight flavors that conclude in a bitter lemon-inflected finish. This could also use better depth so two to three years of cellaring should help.

Middling pale yellow. Not too much nose, not as exotic as the Petit Chablis, but not massively concentrated. Better in the mouth, with saline/iodine notes behind the fruit. And a light peachiness. Drink from 2025-2027. Tasted Jun 2024.

A blend of mostly left-bank parcels, Michel’s 2023 Chablis Village opens in the glass to reveal aromas of pear, beeswax and apple. Medium to full-bodied, ample and charming, it's a fleshy wine with succulent acidity and a medium finish, leaving a desire for greater persistence. Guillaume Michel presides over this 25-hectare estate, with most of the land located in the historic part of Chablis. This estate has long been a reference point for tank-fermented and -matured Chablis, a style that the Michel family helped to popularize in the 1980s. Intense and tensile wines are the calling card here, pure and unadorned in style.(KK)

Notes

Bill Nanson Burgundy Report: "Extra width and a more incisive freshness. Likewise in the mouth – the minerality is more pronounced here and the sweetness less overt. Long finishing. Super-tasty wine again – and with a larger, longer, finish…"(09/2024)
