The Tatsis brothers are old-school bikers. Their yard is filled with reclaimed metal crafted into wild sculptures. They rebuild most of their own equipment and do it all with organic and biodynamic principals. They also do it while holding their wines back until they feel they are ready to drink. The 2013 is the current release, and it is absolutely lovely. Dried cherry, thyme, rosemary, leather, and orange peel make for an engaging and compelling red.

A little dusty, the fruit is definitely on the older side, showing a bit more of that dried and stewed character that wines can develop, but it's still a very pretty nose. There's some dark plums, tayberry and a little hint of dried strawberry sitting on top of more bramblefruit and a little bit of friendly and smoky barnyard. The palate is rich and still has a good amount of tannin despite the age, making this a good candidate for something to lay down a case of and then see how it evolves over time. There's dried red and black fruits with just a touch of fresh raspberry, the whole thing is juicy and chewy and will be fun to try with a bunch of different pairings. Duck comes to mind right away, but there's something about this that feels like pasta might be fun, or something like moussaka or a hearty stew. I think that this is a great way to try something with some age on it to enjoy the potential of what Xinomavro can be when made in a very ageable style.
