2023 Coriole "Estate" Sangiovese McLaren Vale South Australia

Coming off five sites, and seven clones, this was raised in older oak for 11 months. Referential to Tuscan origins, but its local identity firmly rooted, this is a thoroughly engaging expression, classically redolent of red cherries, woody herbs, dried flowers and a grounded, dry-toned earthiness. Spice notes, too. The varietal tannin and acid union tension the palate, with fruit contained, wound in, but not quashed. It’s approachable and fragrant, speaking of the cool year, but that immediate appeal is paired with layered detail, too. (ME)
