This is my pick among the suite of pinot in this good, albeit, miniscule yielding vintage. Another late and cool one, yet there is succulence founded on deft extraction, alongside impeccably architected tannins, as svelte as they are strident and long. Accents of red cherry, rhubarb and peony, with lilac and florals aplenty. Impressive vinosity and sap. Depth and layers. Whole-bunch (30%), impeccably integrated. A drive of pixelated freshness pronounces thrilling length and real class. Drinkable now, but best after 2026. Screw cap. (NG)

From '98 plantings of MV6 at Gladysdale; 30% whole bunches. Matured in 300L and 500L casks (less than 10% new). Pretty and delicate with its aromas of alpine strawberries, rose petal and spice. More depth than the '21. Impeccably balanced and light on its feet, fine grained and ever so gently chewy tannins round out a wine that's approachable now but will keep. (PR)

The 2022 Local Vineyard Series Hazeldene Pinot Noir leads with sweet aromas of dried strawberry, red cherry, garden rose and pomegranate pearls. On the palate, the wine is layered with pink peppercorns and a creaming soda creaminess. I like it very much. 13% alcohol, sealed under screw cap. (EL)

The 2022 Pinot Noir Hazeldene Vineyard is moreish, drawing you in with expressive aromas of red cherry, damp earth and star anise. A fleshy, finely tuned palate follows, a little underpowered but very drinkable now and for a few more years. (AH)

Notes

The Yarra Valley is Victoria’s oldest wine region, established in the 1830s. Located only an hour’s drive from the heart of Melbourne, the region is one of the southernmost appellations of the Australian mainland. Proximity to the Southern Ocean moderates the climate, allowing varieties like Chardonnay and Pinot Noir to thrive. Oakridge is a benchmark producer in the region, crafting elegant cool-climate wines since 1978. Under Chief Winemaker David Bicknell, Oakridge embraces minimal intervention and sustainable viticulture, crafting wines with clarity, balance, and site expression. Their meticulous approach has earned them numerous accolades, including the Halliday Wine Companion’s Best Value Winery in 2024 and a top ten spot in the Real Review’s 2025 Australian Wineries of the Year.
