A rich red with plum and berry aromas and flavors with some walnuts. Medium body and creamy tannins. Hints of berries and leaves, as well as dark chocolate. Solid character. From organically grown grapes. Same owner as La Lagune.

Bright on the nose, the palate is dark and quite serious. No massive acidity nor brightness, but there is a lovely refinement to the fruit - it feels sculpted and poised, if not showy and bright. A linear style with a push from start to finish, then a strong menthol character pushings things on the tail. (GH)

When people think of the finest wines from Haut-Médoc, the shortlist inevitably begins with La Lagune. It doesn’t hurt that they hold the highest classification in the appellation—an impressive ranking as a Third Growth. Hand-crafted and age-worthy, their wines are made under the guidance of one of the region’s greats, Caroline Frey (of Jaboulet fame). La Lagune consistently stands shoulder to shoulder with some of the Left Bank’s finest. That dedication to quality shines through in their second wine, Moulin de Château La Lagune, whose label highlights the estate’s commitment to biodiversity. The 2019 is a stunner—already drinking beautifully. What stands out most is its freshness and brightness, with brilliant focus and purity, yet still remarkable depth of flavor. Floral and cassis aromas lead into a palate that opens with red fruit—plum and cherry—then lifts with fine tannins and a mid-palate richness that keeps it vibrant and engaging. This was one of our team’s favorites at a recent tasting and is a wonderful discovery for anyone looking to experience a wine from one of the Left Bank’s finest classified growths at a remarkable value.

As the second wine from Chateau La Lagune, this Haut-Médoc offers exceptional quality. It opens with inviting aromas of black olive, cassis, and a touch of earthy forest floor. The palate is medium-bodied and elegant, with smooth tannins and a lovely core of fresh blue and black fruits.

Notes

Founded in the 18th century and long recognized as a Third Growth of the Médoc, Château La Lagune has been a cornerstone of classical Bordeaux, with a modern renaissance driven by organic and biodynamic farming. Moulin de la Lagune comes from the estate’s gravelly, well-drained soils in the Haut-Médoc, where deep Garonne gravels and a temperate maritime climate shape the 2019 into a wine of firm structure, savory nuance, and a distinctly Left Bank expression rooted in place rather than polish.
