2021 Foradori 'Sgarzon' Teroldego Vigneti delle Dolomiti
96
James Suckling
There’s so much purity and freshness to the red fruit, with citrus peel, white pepper and attractive crushed stone minerality. It’s medium-bodied, bright and so expressive. Juicy, tense and very long. From organically and biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. Drink or hold.

Sgarzon is aged in Amphora, but don’t be worried about it. This wine is great, I remember pouring this from a Magnum by the glass in a restaurant I used to work in. I remember the face of the customer at the first sip, it is surprisingly clean and precise. Elisabetta is a true magician of this grape.
The amphora brings more energy to the wine, it is more lift than the Granato.
The selection of grapes of sgarzon comes also from a sandier vineyard which is located a little further up the hill. The vineyard here tends to be cooler. The combination of sand and cooler climates makes this wine lighter and more perfumed. You find more red fruit here, and more rose driven aromatics than violets. Soft tannic structure and slightly saline end make this wine glorious if you are into pinot noir and similar.
Sgarzon is the most delicate and lifted of the Foradori wines, perfect for those who appreciate Teroldego’s floral and mineral nuances.
Notes
The "Sgarzon" Teroldego from Elisabetta Foradori is a distinct expression of the Teroldego grape, with vines grown in the cooler, gravel-rich soils of the Sgarzon vineyard. Aged in amphorae, this wine showcases elegance, freshness, and minerality.
