2023 Alfaro "Trout Gulch Vineyard" Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir
98
Jeb Dunnuck
Bright red cherry fruit, black tea, and forest tones highlight the 2023 Pinot Noir Trout Gulch Vineyard. The inclusion of 25% stems in this vintage adds texture and savory intensity, and aging over 10 months in 22% new oak provides more tension and grip to the stems’ textural richness. There’s an immense freshness and sense of place to the wine, along with an enduring acidity that lifts the overall expression of light-bodied effortlessness and length. Drink now through 2040.

Lovely and engaging aromas of bright cherry and hibiscus float above a lingering sense of damp earth on the nose of this bottling. The texture is very tense on the palate, as brilliantly fresh cherry flavors are cut by wet riverstone elements. (MK).

Decanter
Trout Gulch was planted in 1980 by Jim Beauregard. It features Mt. Eden, Pommard, and Martini clones of Pinot Noir. It's a highly sought-after property for some of California’s top boutique producers. Savoury on the nose with blood orange, bright florals and mint. The palate has a further savoury concentration, wild alpine meadow herbs, lilac, sapid red strawberries and a note of navel orange squeeze.
