James Suckling

Purplish in the glass. Lively fruit on the nose, with bright raspberry and blackcurrant aromas wrapped up in aromatic herbs. The palate shows crisp, integrated acidity and lightly framed tannins. Delicious and so fresh. From organically and biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. Drinkable now, but better in two or three years.

Vinous

A beguiling blend of black raspberries, exotic spice, leather straps, cocoa and crushed stones makes the 2022 Teroldego Morei impossible to ignore. This is juicy and fresh in style with lifted textures, crisp wild berry fruits and zesty acidity that keeps the energy remarkably high. Tactile mineral tones add a pleasant crunch as hints of white pepper and pomegranate linger over a bed of gently grippy tannins. The 2022 Morei has a more immediate feel than past vintages, yet its balance can not be denied. The purity alone is spellbinding.

Morei, meaning “dark” in Trentino dialect, comes from a vineyard with heavier, stonier soils, producing a richer, more structured Teroldego. This wine is also aged in an amphora but delivers a complete expression of the grape. The soil in this vineyard is denser, it produces more intense wines. This wine is a festival of dark, blue fruit. It’s like an orchestra of black plums, blackberry and graphite followed by crushed herbs instead of the floral aromas found in the other two Teroldegos. Still, the aging in amphora makes this wine lifted. It is definitely bolder than the Sgarzon, but it still is a dynamic lifted wine.

Notes

The "Morei" Teroldego from Foradori is a deep, complex expression of the Teroldego grape, grown in the gravelly soils of the Dolomites. The wine undergoes extended maceration and is aged in clay amphorae, emphasizing the earthy, mineral-driven character of the terroir.
