Our Discovery Series has arrived! At the heart of this program is a mission to showcase wines of impeccable quality, unmistakable regional typicité, and exceptional value. As I often say, we’re not simply putting a label on someone’s latest release—we’re curating standout selections from our deep and trusted network of producers. Each wine must distinguish itself from its peers, often outperforming bottles that sell for many times the price. Only those that meet this high bar earn a place in the lineup. From one of the most treasured terroirs in the world of fine wine, it’s nothing short of a coup to bottle an exclusive Pomerol of this caliber and deliver it for under $30. This is land where bottles typically fetch $100 to $3,000, simply because production is so limited and quality so high. The plateau of Pomerol is defined by its unique gravel and iron-rich clay soils, which yield wines of remarkable complexity, richness, texture, luxury, and longevity. I was captivated by this particular selection for its quintessential Pomerol character: gorgeous red fruits, striking density, and a textured palate that reflects the famed mosaic of soils beneath the vines. It is a wine that could come from nowhere else. We’ll count ourselves fortunate if we can continue to collaborate on future vintages. This is a delicious, complex, and thoroughly enjoyable Pomerol that easily merits double the price, and one that will be a standout on our shelves while it’s in stock.

The Discovery series continues in the world renown Right Bank (of the Gironde River) village of Pomerol, known for its rich, plush, Merlot based blends grown in gravel, iron rich clay, and sand. The 2019 K&L Discovery Series Pomerol is a traditional blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc from an epic vintage whose hot dry summer produced consistently excellent wines that are aging into classic old school Bordeaux that are round and luscious. On the nose, cigar box, olive tapenade, crushed stone, fennel, dark red berries. On the palate, coffee bean, sweet vanilla, red plum, chocolate, with subtle notes of bell pepper and herbs. This Pomerol continued to open up throughout the day, slowly revealing its historic pedigree and terroir. For a wine that is ready to drink, or can be cellared for another two decades, all for $29.99 this new K&L offering is a no-brainer!

The 2019 Discovery Series is a compelling expression of Pomerol from a stellar Vintage. The nose presents a vibrant bouquet of ripe plum and black cherry, with a distinct blackcurrant note. Subtle hints of mint and a floral lift of violet add layers of complexity. On the palate, the wine is powerfully fruit driven, showcasing a concentrated core of black fruit balanced by fresh acidity. The finish is supported by polished tannins, providing amazing structure for the wine to evolve beautifully over the next 5-10 years. Experiencing the character and prestige of Pomerol. one of France's most exclusive regions, for just 29.99 makes this a truly remarkable find!

Well, well, another K&L Discovery wine has landed ashore and this time it's from Pomerol. Let's see how we feel about this one, so far it's been a pretty glorious bounty, but you never know which way the tide will turn. Well, there's definitely a real nice level of sophistication on the nose, so that's a big mark in favor. I definitely get the terroir, and there's a really pretty and generous amount of fruit already showing despite having just opened the bottle. Blackberry, cherry, cigar box, barrel spice and just a touch of vanilla round out the really elegant and stately nose. The palate is no different, the tannins are incredibly fine and incredibly well integrated, the palate has pretty fruits reminiscent of the nose, but also this kind of creaminess that I'm really enjoying. The barrel is there, but the fruit wins out ultimately in the finish, which is always something I enjoy in a wine. Yes, Darryl, I like a wine that tastes like fruit, it's made out of fruit, this shouldn't be a controversial opinion. There's a good amount of savory components in the mid-palate and finish, I think that I'm going to have to grab a couple bottles of this to try with a few different meals. I see this going great with a slightly leaner cut of steak like a NY Strip and a moderate potato, or maybe something more like a filet mignon and a fat potato. You just have to find the right balance. Either way, for the price this bottle of wine absolutely slaps and I highly recommend you give a try, because you might have just found your new Wednesday bottle.

The result of nearly a year spent meticulously tasting through Bordeaux to uncover an exceptional deal at unbeatable pricing, we’re beyond excited to introduce the inaugural edition of what we’re calling the K&L Discovery Series. The aim of this new collection is to showcase wines that are both quintessential and exemplary representations of their region and/or vintage. From one of the most treasured terroirs in the world of fine wine, it’s nothing short of a coup to bottle an exclusive Pomerol of this caliber. For the remarkable complexity, richness, texture, luxury, and longevity that Pomerol is famous for, this is a not-to-be-missed value.
