2023 Bedrock "Esola Vineyard" Shenandoah Valley Zinfandel

Notes from Morgan Twain Peterson on what may be his final vintage from this ancient dry-farmed vineyard, which was planted in 1915: "Likely our last wine from this wonderful vineyard planted in the heart of Amador County’s Shenandoah Valley, and it’s a nice one to go out on. Picked on October 7th (nearly five weeks later than normal!) at a very reasonable 23.7 brix, this was fermented in open-top tank and aged in neutral foudre. Always one of the more lightly colored Zinfandels we make, this showcases the wonderful perfume of the site (indeed this smells like pink grapefruit when just starting to ferment, which is wild for a red wine) and is filled with delicate red fruits. Over the years we have often joked that this is the Nerello Mascalese or Nebbiolo of Zinfandel, and that holds true for the 2023—tangy, succulent, and a wonderful food Zinfandel that can be enjoyed in its youth."
