It's so wonderful to be able to access these high quality malts at such an incredible price. While we'd love to have dark sherry Family casks direct from the distillery, even a younger one like this commands several hundred on the world market today. Instead, we settle for these unnamed 'Farclas at a fraction of the price and indeed we've had a few over the years. They are typically in very old tired wood and while delicious, they can feel a bit naked. Not this exceptional little hogshead! It must have been 1st or 2nd use here as the color is very dark for a non-sherry hoggie. On first nosing, maybe it is a bit of sherry or the rich nutty character of GlenFarclas. Impossible to know for sure, but it exhibits deep nutty character, sweet apricot jam, cacao nibs and roasted malt. On the palate extremely rich and texture with beautiful oak spice tempering the gorgeous fruit. If this wasn't a second fill sherry hoggie I'd be surprised as it has lots of character. It's simply insane that we are selling this for such a low price. This is the epitome of Faultline - I don't think there's a better way to spend $60 on Scotch on the market today.

Notes

Our series of Faultline mystery malts continues with this special cask distilled at the special distillery near Ballindalloch. Glenfarclas absolutely detests others using their name on any labels that might hold juice that they distilled, so our bottler would not include the distillery details on the label, but we have no such qualms telling you exactly where this is from. It was distilled on May 8th, 2010, and filled into a hogshead for 13 years before being bottled exclusively for K&L at a natural cask strength of 55.1% on July 29th, 2024. No chillfiltration or coloring added. One of 294 bottles. Cask: 29900345
