Refined and complex nose with a touch of cream and mineral to the salted lemons, chalk and gooseberries. Bright and fluid on the palate with a medium body and a pure, zesty finish. Long, bright and dissolved. 60% sauvignon and 40% semillon. Lovely now, but can hold, too. (ZS)

A top-notch second wine, the 2021 L'Esprit De Chevalier Blanc is ripe and medium-bodied, with beautiful purity its honeyed lemon, minty herbs, and chalky, mineral-like aromas and flavors. It's beautifully balanced, has good acidity, and a kiss of salinity on the finish. I love it today yet see no reason it shouldn't evolve nicely for a decade.

The 2021 L'Esprit de Chevalier Blanc is a gorgeous dry white. Crushed flowers, mint, lemon peel and light tropical notes all run through this inviting, wonderfully nuanced second wine from Domaine de Chevalier. Bright acids and lifted floral accents perk up the delineated, nuanced finish. (AG)

Pear, red apple and lemon zest as well as grapefruit and satsuma - this is really fruity and alive on the palate, so much fun and freshness but also harmony and serenity. It's well worked and balanced, not too sharp or sour just gentle. I like the styling here, feels purposeful and delicious. Easy to appreciate with texture and structure. Excellent work. (GH)

There are few wines that receive as much quiet acclaim among wine lovers as Domaine de Chevalier Blanc. The Bernard family has found a way to blend Pessac typicité with remarkable purity of fruit, while remaining irresistibly delicious. Some of my most memorable wine experiences over the last decade have included at least a bottle or two of DDC Blanc. That said, it is a rare treat—certainly not an everyday indulgence.
That’s where l’Esprit comes in. The elusive yet remarkable second wine from the estate carries much of the character that has made this address so famous for Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon—light yet rich, with pure stone fruit and citrus, dancing minerality, and a luxurious texture. The superb 2021 vintage adds yet another layer to this gem.
For an affordable yet dynamic taste inspired by one of the world’s greatest white wines, the 2021 l’Esprit de Chevalier delivers remarkable character and charm. It captures the spirit of its legendary sibling while remaining approachable and distinct in its own right. Don’t miss it.

Email SimonCapturing the essence of its renowned sibling, this wine is a superb example of white Bordeaux(70% Sauvignon Blanc, 30% Semillon). It presents a vibrant nose of lime zest, white grapefruit, and a touch of smoky flint. The palate is energetic and focused, with zinging acidity and intense citrus and stone fruit flavors. It's all wrapped in a subtly creamy texture from about 35% new oak barrels use, delivering exceptional class and value.

Email AaronThis is definitely a little bit classier of a nose than some of the other Bordeaux blancs that I've tried lately, nothing against them, they were all super delicious but the well-integrated oak in the back just elevates it a little bit more and helps round on the Sauvignon Blanc heavy blend as well. Crisp green apples, white flowers, lemon zest, and chalk round out the nose. The palate is super refreshing and yet still quite deep, really great chalky minerality with a little bit of a saline finish, all present fruit first with juicy lemon, underripe green apple, and quince all work together. Then, last but not least, the barrel spice on the very finish makes all the flavors feel complete. This is just such a delicious bottle of wine and people really need to start drinking more Bordeaux blanc, they're all so good and range from super approachable to yummy yummers.
Notes
92 points, Neal Martin for Vinous: "The 2021 L'Esprit de Chevalier Blanc has a light, apple blossom- and citrus peel-scented nose, showing hints of white flower in the background. The palate is well-balanced with a keen line of acidity, malic in style, very fresh and sapid. Hints of orange rind emerge on the finish. Very fine." (11/2023)
