2023 Benanti Etna Bianco
93
Decanter
Review Date: 10/2024Expressive and robust, showing powerful elegance and great textural appeal, this is a Carricante that balances classicism and modernity. Green apple, quince, and white grapefruit at the core with an elegant top layer of lemon balm, white roses and linden. Very long on the palate with focus and a delicious chalky grip that makes it linger on the palate. Lingering notes of grapefruit pith, preserved lemon and pear peel. (IS)

Notes
Benanti Etna Bianco is a refined and elegant white wine from the slopes of Mount Etna in Sicily, produced by the pioneering Benanti winery. Known for its deep commitment to expressing the unique volcanic terroir of Etna, Benanti has been at the forefront of reviving the traditional wines of this region. Etna Bianco is primarily made from Carricante, a native Sicilian grape that thrives in the high-altitude, mineral-rich soils of the Etna DOC. On the nose, the wine offers fresh and vibrant aromas of citrus, green apple, and white flowers, with subtle hints of herbs and a distinct minerality. The palate is crisp and lively, with bright acidity that balances flavors of lemon, pear, and a touch of almond, reflecting the volcanic influence of the terroir. The finish is long and clean, with a refreshing, saline edge that adds to its elegance. Benanti Etna Bianco is an excellent pairing with seafood, grilled fish, light pasta dishes, and fresh salads, making it a versatile wine that can also be enjoyed as an aperitif. With its freshness, balance, and minerality, this Etna Bianco is a beautiful expression of Carricante and the unique character of Mount Etna’s winemaking traditions.
