Of these various new releases from Il Poggiolo Rodolfo Cosimi, the 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Il Poggiolo shows the best overall balance and harmony in terms of its aromas. There is an evident tug of war between sweetness and sourness in the mouth, but the nose is treated to a classic Sangiovese presentation of red fruit, sour cherry, cassis and bitter almond. Indeed, there is an extra point of sourness on the close. Serve it with a platter of pecorino. (ML)

Aromas of black plum, tilled soil and tobacco emerge from the glass. The mature, solid palate shows blackberry jam, clove and mocha alongside firm tannins.
