Begun with a mere two hectares of vines nearly 160 years ago, Gaja is now a titan of the wine world. While Angelo Gaja is widely credited (rightly so) with moving the estate down the path on which it has now garnered heaps of accolades, it was his father Giovanni who instilled in him the entrepreneurial spirit that led to many of the estate's most successful marketing and production innovations, including featuring the family name in bold lettering on the labels, promoting single-vineyard bottlings, and planting non-Piemontese varietals.
