Review Date: 01/2024Although somewhat reserved at present, this has the makings of a monumental wine. Quince, ripe apricot and nectarine aromas are accented with hints of spice and marzipan. The texture has impressive density and power, balancing substance and elegance to linger impressively on the palate. Should begin to open three to five years after release and will drink well for 30 years or more. A portion of Lafon’s three-quarters of a hectare here has been replanted, but this is only the old-vine portion.(CC)

This is an unusually forward Perrières with lots of toast, raw oats, roasted almonds and toasted hazelnuts. Wild rose, apple core and toasted spices take over on the palate. The vivacious acidity smartly harmonizes with the mid-palate generosity and glycerol. The barrel use offers a hint of subtle smoke but is easily tucked into all of the compact, mid-palate fruit. Delicious but demanding more time.

A pretty lemon yellow. The wine is going to have power but is currently all in discretion. Only on the palate does the fruit open right out, opulent ripe pears, only just in balance. So much concentration of fruit that the acidity, which is present, is fully covered. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted Oct 2023.

Note: from two different parcels, a large one with 45+ year old vines that is only 50 yards from Genevrières and a second, smaller one with 20+ year old vines just above Charmes. Here too the reticent if cool and airy nose only grudgingly reveals its array of mineral reduction, acacia blossom, exotic spice, just sliced citrus and tea scents. The wonderfully refined and beautifully textured middleweight plus flavors are akin to rolling tiny pebbles around the mouth on the chalky, youthfully austere and impeccably balanced finale that just goes on and on. As is virtually always the case, this is very much built-to-age and I would recommend not touching a bottle for at least 7 to 8 years and 10 would be better.*Burghound Don't Miss Outstanding!*
