Grapes for this enticing Crianza are sourced from the eponymously named Finca Manzanos. It is ruby colored, with aromas of ripe red plum, red raspberry and blackberry. In the mouth the fruit flavors are accented by touches of vanilla, tobacco leaf, and saddle leather. Tannins are silky smooth and the finish goes on and on. (MD)

While fresh and lively, this Crianza also showcases depth and complexity, making it a well-rounded choice for those seeking both energy and sophistication. This causal everyday Rioja immediately entices with the sun-kissed aromas of freshly picked cherries. Each sip blossoms into an herbaceous bouquet of tarragon, oregano, thyme, and tobacco. Uplifted by bright acidity that is well balanced by grippy tannins, the 2019 vintage currently offers a youthful vibrancy complemented by an integrated structure.

Notes

The Manzanos family have been growing grapes and selling wine since the 1890’s. Their family's vineyards are located in both Rioja and in neighboring Navarra. The Manzanos brand was created by the family’s fifth generation and their new modern winery was built in the early ‘00’s. The 2015 Gran Reserva is sourced from vineyards in two of the most esteemed areas within the region. Some are located on the Northern side of the Ebro near the villages of San Adrian and Azagra and the others in the Yerga Mountains. All of the vineyards are older than 50 years and planted as bush vines. Their Crianza is a blend of 50% Tempranillo, 40% Graciano and 10% Garnacha. The higher portion of the Graciano gives the wines a darker fruit profile; more plums and blackberries. Balanced against 18 months of aging in new and used French and American oak barrels this is a rich and spicy Crianza that is a unique and delicious.
