Reviewed February 2025The 2022 Château Tronquoy is the finest vintage of this cuvée ever produced, offering fabulous aromatics of cassis, graphite, violets, flowers, chocolate, and earthy nuances. Full-bodied and beautifully rich and textured on the palate, with sweet tannins and a seamless, concentrated mouthfeel, it’s already hard to resist, and as I said from barrel, it shows the ripeness of the vintage while staying pure, balanced, and seamless. It’s going to benefit from just 4-6 years in the cellar and drink well for 25+ years.

The 2022 Tronquoy has a complex bouquet that unfolds in the glass, with blackberry, cedar and tobacco scents, one of the most classical styles in this flight. It builds in power. The palate has exquisite balance, a kind of symmetry that reminds me of Montrose. Perfectly judged acidity, this is so precise on the finish and contains the sapidity to draw you back for more. I already knew this was a strong Saint-Estèphe but here it really shows the opposition what it is capable of. (NM)

Lots of blackberries, lead pencil, dark earth and blackcurrants. Bright and clear. Full-bodied with lots of fruit yet framed and structured with a deep and intense finish. It goes on for a long time. Greatest Tronquoy ever. A blend of 59% cabernet sauvignon, 35% merlot and 6% petit verdot. Needs five to six years to open.

The 2022 Tronquoy has turned out much better than I anticipated, bursting with aromas of dark berries, cassis, cigar box and nicely integrated new oak, followed by a medium to full-bodied, layered and elegantly muscular palate that's dense and penetrating. This is well worth seeking out. (WK)

One of the top values in the Médoc is flirting with greatness in 2022. This resplendent Tronquoy highlights the caliber of the Montrose team and the potential of both the site and the vintage. What’s immediately striking are the aromatics—filling the room the moment the bottle is opened—with blue and red fruits and a terrific floral note. On the palate, it’s layered with blackberry, red plum, and cherry, beautifully concentrated and already well integrated in terms of texture, acidity, and tannins. A long, gravelly finish grounds it with a strong sense of place. There’s so much going on here. Like many 2022s, it offers plenty of immediate appeal, but all the components are in place for it to age effortlessly for years.
