Made from 65+ year old vines. 80% made in tank, 20% in barrels, blend made up for tasting. Fine pale lemon yellow. The oak dumbs down the nose while reinforcing the palate. Fresh lemon notes on top of the orchard fruit, a solid base without overly sunny generosity.

The 2023 Chablis Village Vieilles Vignes has a bit more complexity and tension than other cuvées, with a subtle flintiness developing in the glass. The palate is well balanced with tropical tones on the entry, a touch of orange rind and a hint of ginger. It's quite cohesive toward the finish with a dab of lemongrass on the aftertaste. Fine. Tasted blind at the BIVB offices in Chablis.(NM)

Made from vines 50+ years of age the Agnes Gleizes Chablis Vieilles Vignes is a wonderfullly complex example of a great entry-level Chablis! Flinty on the nose with subtle aromas of citrus which give way to a palate awash in kiwi, line and crushed stone. Excellent length and multi-layered this is a fantastic Chablis value that feels like a 1er Cru Chablis in both stature and structure but costs much less.

There's a nice bit of saline in this super affordable and tasty Chablis. Present are poached pear, lush lemon and apple peel flavors. It is medium-bodied with some plush fruits and a nice clean finish.

Rich and deep nose with ripe and expressive fruit, though there's a lot of flowers accompanying that fruit, in the best of ways. Baked apples with lemon zest are surrounded by a handful of white flowers. The palate is less rich than the nose might imply, but it's dense and mineral at the very core with apples and pears and more juicy lemon around that, it's got a nice depth and weight and only a little touch of a pithy finish.

Notes

Bill Nanson Burgundy Report: "Vines older than 55 years, provenance of those grapes the same as for the last wine. A mix of tank and wood for the first part of elevage then assembled into stainless for the last part of elevage. Amount of wood depends on the vintage. Not yet bottled, maybe in 1-2 months though. ‘The first year, 2000, I bought the barrels when my parents were on holiday – my dad was anti-wood!’ Bottled 18 Dec. A more vertical nose of fine clarity and a mineral depth. Extra – that’s super – properly mineral already – stricter, lovely Chablis – simply excellent." (02/2025)
