So effusive, this leaps and bounds over your palate with youthful energy. Fantastic concentration and vitality on the medium-bodied palate. Racy and intensely herbal and spicy in the very long, focused finish. Drink from release.

The 2023 Riesling Ürziger Würzgarten Alte Reben Grosses Gewächs has a lovely ethereal lift of crushed yarrow. The palate is absolutely pithy, with Navel orange peel and vivid tangerine notes, framed by crushed yarrow savor and mouthwatering stoniness. It's beautifully long and incisive. (Dry)(AK)

The 2023 Ürziger Würzgarten GG Alte Reben represents the impressively steep, red-colored, iron-rich cru perfectly well on the fragrant, very elegant, deep, intense and complex nose that is pure, fresh and refined but also tropical, saline and smoky. Round and crystalline on the palate, this is a full-bodied, intense and elegant, deeply structured but also generous and lush, nevertheless precise and saline Würzgarten with class and style. 12.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in December 2024. At Loosen, the strengths of the current collection of 2023s lie in the Grosses Gewächs bottlings from those sites with the very old, ungrafted parcels (Erdener Treppchen, Wehlener Sonnenuhr and Ürziger Würzgarten). With the exception of the Kinheimer Rosenberg, the other GGs and Prädikat wines do not come close to their depth. Of the GG Reserve wines matured longer on the lees and in the bottle, the 2019 Erdener Prälat GG Alte Reben is the best.(SR)

Notes

93pts Mosel Fine Wines: "AP: 38 24. The 2023 Ürziger Würzgarten Riesling Alte Reben, as it is referred to on the consumer label (the GG and Trocken mentions are left for the back label) is a dry wine made fruit picked on very old un-grafted vines in the prime Urglück, Maxberg, and Layenhaus sectors, and was fermented with ambient yeasts and aged in oak for 12 months. This white-hay-colored wine offers a beautifully backward nose made of spices, herbs, and smoke. It is only on the palate that this dry wine reveals some of its complex flavors of pear, citrusy elements, and minerals. The finish is all about precision and backward spiciness at this stage. This wine will require some patience, but the wait will be worth it: It is a great dry Riesling in the making! 2028-2038." 93-95pts Fallstaff Magazine: "Spice garden on the nose, nettle, chervil, marjoram, floral notes, snowdrops, ripe lemons, peach, allspice. Taut on the palate, lively acidity with tension meets a supple base, pithy phenolics, fresh, still restrained fruit, lots of savouriness, good certain ageing potential.-Ulrich sautter"(11/2024)
