Cassis and blueberries, dark chocolate and spiced cocoa are carried on a framework of durable tannins into a persistent finish. This wine will do well with decanting to help open up its flavors, or can be held in cellar for several more years. Drink 2028–2038.

***#75 on the Top 100 Wines of 2024*** Ripe and structured but fresh in feel, with a lovely, pure beam of cassis driving through, supported by mouthwatering apple wood, savory and iron details along the way. This red offers cut and drive, with the fruit lingering the longest thanks to a light hand with the toast. Very Rutherford. Drink now through 2038. (JM)

I'm so please to be back with a fantastic price on this beautiful estate grown Rutherford Cab! A past favorite here at K&L, a few years back we offered the 2018 vintage of this wine with great reception, and get this, we now actually have an even sharper price on the 2021 release! There aren't many situations like that with inflation the way it's been! But hey, it's a new year and we've got our nose to the ground sniffing for the best deals out there! Sullivan has a wonderful estate right in the heart of the Rutherford, with prime gravelly loam soils and plenty of that signature Rutherford Dust. What I think makes this wine so loved is the combination of rich, succulent fruit from this relatively warm, up-valley site, combined with savory, dusty, soil driven notes and hints of leather and dried herbs. It's lush and round with ripe fruit abounding, but doesn't get confectionary as it's grounded by earthy minerals and a nice core and grippy tannins. This wine really shows its sense of place and the quality of the small but beautiful 2021 vintage. At 50% less than the winery SRP, and well under the best prices in the market, this is a legit deal in quality, pedigreed Rutherford Cab.

Gobs of lush and ripe black currant on the nose, perfectly fresh and delightful, underneath that plummy fruit and plum skin. The oak is supremely well integrated, the start of the palate soft with deep bramble-fruit and then just a soft tannic grip on the finish, hints of tobacco and tea leaves mingling with the dense cassis and a touch of oak spice. While it could lay down and age for a little while longer, this is just begging for a richer cut of steak next to a fat potato and something green so you can tell Mom you did.

If you are looking for a decadent cab at an excellent value, this is a splendid option to try. This full-bodied beast packs a powerfully aromatic nose of dried plum with a palate of boysenberry jam. A touch of nectar on the front smooths out the tannins, building an overall fullness that provides a satiating and memorable experience.

Notes

A bold and powerful Cabernet from a great estate in the heart of Rutherford. Sullivan's Estate was planted in 1972 at the urging of Napa legend André Tchelistcheff who recognized the world-class potential of this Rutherford dirt. The 2021 Sullivan Coeur de Vigne combines rich, blackberry and cassis fruit with classic hints of Rutherford dust and perfectly judged exotic oak spices. The blend is 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot, and 6% Petit Verdot. It was aged for 20 months in 60% new French oak.
