The 2019 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Cras is similarly compelling, soaring from the glass with aromas of red berries, exotic spices, orange rind, musk and rose petals. Medium to full-bodied, concentrated and tightly wound, with a deep and vibrant core of fruit that's framed by fine, powdery tannins, it concludes with a long, penetrating and intensely mineral finish. This is a magical Chambolle-Musigny worth a special effort to seek out. (WK)

Power packed purple. The bouquet suggests a concentration of fruit but is initially backward. Even with some time in the glass it does not seem to want to develop. Solid, rich, chunky on the palate, firm tannins, this is made in a style for keeping and though broad bottomed has not forsaken its Chambolle roots.

The 2019 Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras 1er Cru has a very pure bouquet of maraschino cherries, blueberry, white pepper and subtle undergrowth aromas. This is quintessential Chambolle—more succinct than Camille Giroud’s Les Borniques. The palate is medium-bodied and succulent, but it doesn't quite deliver the panache that is exhibited aromatically. High-toned and a little honeyed in texture, it requires a bit more tension on the structured finish. (NM)
