2020 Sarno 1860 "Erre" Fiano di Avellino Riserva

Review Date: 04/2023The 2020 Fiano di Avellino Riserva Erre is youthfully coy in the glass, tempting the imagination with a subtle yet complex blend of wildflowers, stone dust, curry leaves and crushed apples. This smooths over the palate in textural waves, delivering masses of mineral-drenched orchard fruits and exotic spices, all motivated by brisk acidity. The 2020 finishes distinctly savory and full of tension, with a citrusy concentration, liquid rocks and apricot hints. This is a fantastic rendition of the Riserva erre. Tenuta Sarno 1860 continues to be one of Campania's top Fiano producers, hands down. (EG)

Notes
The "Erre" Fiano di Avellino Riserva from Tenuta Sarno 1860 is a distinguished white wine crafted from 100% Fiano grapes, cultivated in the Candida region of Campania. The vineyard, established in 2004, spans 3 hectares of estate-owned land and an additional 10 hectares under lease, situated at an elevation of 630 meters above sea level. The soil composition is predominantly calcareous clay with volcanic residues, characteristic of the "pietra bianca di Candida." Harvested manually in mid-October, the grapes undergo gentle pressing. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures using neutral selected yeasts. The wine is then aged for 26 months on fine lees in stainless steel, followed by an additional 3 months in the bottle before release. This meticulous process results in a wine with an alcohol content of 13%.
