The 2022 Vinista hails from four vineyards, two planted on granite in Guarilihue and two on dark, sandy volcanic soils in Ñipas. It opens with a highly floral and slightly medicinal nose that introduces a soft, delicate palate with a higher degree of precision than typically associated with the variety. It concludes with a spry, powdery and perfumed finish. This is a dramatically overperforming and serious expression of País. (ML)

Camphor, menthol, red berries and grapefruit with smoky mezcal character. Elegant, with light red berries and some dusty, rustic tannins on the palate.

Entirely fermented with whole clusters, Vinista hails from four different sites - two on basalt and two on granite soils- and sees a combination of foudres and concrete vats. Fresh, taut and tangy, with grippy, earthy tannins and layers of tar, rose petal and pomegranate. País meets Nebbiolo.

Notes

Pedro Parra is one of the most influential voices of the “New Chile” wine movement. He started his career studying forestry, then went on to earn a Master’s and a PhD in Precision Agriculture and Terroir from the Institut National Agronomique Paris Grignon. He then spent over two decades working as a consultant for wineries across the world, including such famous names as Comando G, Jean-Marc Roulot, Liger Belair and Zuccardi. In 2013, Parra founded his own estate Pedro Parra y Familia in the remote Itata Valley of southern Chile, with the goal of producing wines that reflect their terroir, favoring old bush vines grown on granitic soils, dry-farmed and cared for organically. His winemaking philosophy emphasizes minimal intervention: native yeasts, gentle vinification, and aging in neutral or lightly used vessels to let soil, climate, and vineyard history speak through the wine.
