The 2022 Martin Woods Pinot Noir from Koosah Vineyard is a true standout, showcasing a glowing neon ruby core with a subtle bluish rim. This vintage bursts with rich and deep fruit aromas of mountain blueberries, complemented by green peppercorns, sassafras, dried rosemary, and crushed walnut shells. The depth of fruit is beautifully balanced by an underlying tension, creating a captivating interplay on the palate. Medium tannins and moderate acidity frame the wine, while the long, lingering finish leaves a lasting impression. This is undoubtedly the best wine from the Martin Woods 2022 vintage, poised for greatness with a bit more time in the bottle. Better to enjoy from 2025, with potential lasting through 2040.”

Youthful ruby in hue, the 2022 Pinot Noir Koosah Vineyard offers notes of potpourri, wild herbs, mossy earth, wild berries, preserved raspberries, and a clean note of stony earth. The palate is outstanding and pure, with refined tannins and a crystalline feel to the fruit profile. This is just a hell of a good, delicious wine now, and it’s going to drink well for a long time to come. (AF)

The Pinot Noir from Koosah is one of the most spice-driven among the Martin Woods releases, with green aromatic notes of mint, rose hip oil and sassafras. This wine has an alpine-like freshness. The young vines at Koosah Vineyard, sitting at the highest elevation in the Valley—a name from the Kalapuya Native American people meaning 'beautiful ceiling of the sky'—yield a beautifully balanced and vibrant wine. The vineyard’s poetic name appropriately describes the wine, which features bold aromatics yet impressive freshness on the palate, with notes of mint, pine, and green spices on the finish. It is a medium-bodied wine with soft, grippy tannins. (CP)

The 2022 Pinot Noir Koosah Vineyard opens with a spice box bouquet as cloves and dusty sage give way to crushed back cherries and hints of cola. This is cool-toned and racy in style, with plush, ripe red and blue fruits elevated by notes of blood orange. Zesty acidity keeps the mouth watering through the long and gently structured finale as nuances of mint and exotic spice linger over a coating of black-tea-like tannins. The 2022 is full of energy yet boasts a powerful core of tension. Superb. (EG)

A fairly young vineyard that has quickly become one of the most exciting and sought after vineyards in Oregon. Planted at 1000+ft on the upper slopes of the Eola-Amity Hills, this planting is owned by the Jadot Family of Burgundy. The very thin, rocky soils, steep slopes, and cool, windy climate produces incredibly aromatic, lifted, dynamic Pinot Noir. The 2022 Koosah is positively shimmering with bright red fruits, alpine strawberry, crushed raspberry, amaro-like hints, baking spice, subtle pine needle, forest floor savory elements. Boundless energy and focus. There is so much freshness and purity here it's remarkable. Another stunning Pinot from Martin Woods.

While some wineries offer food pairings, Martin Woods Winery offers album pairings - the album for Koosah Vineyard is "Stone by Stone" by Ikebe Shakedown. Pretty cherry nose and unlike the music, not a hint of funk, this is a pairing of contrasts - the rhythmic beat and funky flow vs the clean, pretty and elegant Pinot Noir. Hint of loam and spice start to show just as the titular track comes on, the darker tone and deeper notes pulling depth from the wine. The finish is long and the tannins are already fine and well integrated - just like the horn in track 3 "The Beast". While I didn't think this pairing would work at first, the finesse of the wine made anything possible. Absolutely fantastic.
