2023 Domaine de la Ganse Vacqueyras Rosé

Vacqueyras Rose is just really emerging on the wine scene. I think we'll start to see more exciting roses coming from this region as producers embrace the category. Coralie Onde, the vigneron of Domaine de la Ganse has jumped in and our first vintage of this is terrific. Dried strawberry, blood orange, a touch of salinity... my notes start to take me closer to Bandol rose. This is a pretty compelling treat!

Notes

Coralie Onde is from the winemaking family behind Domaine les Ondines, but opted to start her own project independent of her family estate in 2008. She formed Domaine de la Ganse in Vacqueyras when she purchased some terrific old vine fruit, also taking a small holding when the family estate was split. With close to nine hectares now, Coralie began the organic certification process and was officially certified in 2014. Her vines are aged from fifteen to fifty-five years and the soils are primarily chalky-clay with some galet (river stones). The Rose is a blend of Mourvèdre, Cinsault, Grenache and Clairette all from destemmed bunches. After harvest the grapes direct pressed into stainless steel vats. It is a light floral rose that shows note of peach and persimmon.
